Course Description

This accredited online course gives a broad Introduction to recognising and responding to abuse and neglect for those who deliver care or support others in their own home.

The course explores the introductory requirements for recognising and responding to abuse and neglect, focussing specifically on:

  • The relevant legislation and associated organisational policies and procedures
  • Definitions of abuse and neglect and the related signs of abuse and neglect taking place
  • Types and forms of abuse and neglect
  • Reporting and overcoming abuse and neglect

Due to the experience and previous knowledge of the individual completing the course BYTSYZ has built in explanations of all new and technical terms that the student may be facing for the first time.

To further embed this new and often complex learning BYTSYZ has included a number of care related exercises to encourage:

  • Liaison with managers and senior carers to engage with issues at the local level, such as the content and location of local policies and procedures
  • The contextualisation of learning
  • Consolidation of learning

  5. Identify the organisational issues involved in protecting vulnerable adults and identifying the abusers
  6. Explain the importance of reporting and whistle-blowing on actual or potential abuse
