Course Description

This BYTSYZ online course in Fire Safety will enable students to understand the key issues relating to the causes, recognition and control of fire.

This course consists of two main modules, namely:

• Understanding and Preventing Fire
• Dealing with Fire

Each module addresses a number of key issues, namely:

Understanding and Preventing Fire

Main theory relating to fire, its causes and how it spreads, including:

• 'Fire triangle'
• Main causes of fire
• How fire spreads

The range and purpose of fire safety signs and extinguishing equipment, including:

• Recognising fire safety signs
• Importance of various signs
• Different types of fire extinguishers & blankets

The range of methods to prevent fire, including:

• Good housekeeping tips
• How to identify areas of concern
• Smoking and flammable liquids

Dealing with Fire

Recognising and responding to fire, including:

• Recognising fire
• What to do when fire is suspected
• How to tackle a small fire

The principles of safe evacuation, including:

• Evacuation procedure
• Safe evacuation tips

Due to the experience and previous knowledge of the individual completing the course BYTSYZ has built in explanations of all new and technical terms that the student may be facing for the first time.

To further embed the learning BYTSYZ has included a number of related exercises to encourage:

• Liaison with managers to engage with issues at the local level, such as the content and location of local policies and procedures
• The contextualisation of learning
• Consolidation of learning
